Where are IB Schools?
As of August, 2015, 4,267 schools across the globe offer IB programmes for students ages 3-19. There are 2633 IB World Schools in the Americas, 962 in Africa, Europe and the Middle East, and 681 IB World Schools in the Asia-Pacific region,
What makes IB schools unique?
  • The IB program encourages international-mindedness.  Students must first develop an understanding of their own cultural and national identity.
  • The IB students cultivate a positive attitude to learning by encouraging students to ask challenging questions, to critically reflect, to develop research skills, to learn how to learn and to participate in community service.

The IB Continuum

IB Continuum
The IB Program offers four programs for students aged 3 to 19. These programs can be offered individually or as a continuum by IB World Schools.
  • The Primary Years Program (PYP) for students aged 3 to 12 started in 1997 and is now offered in 1,266 IB World Schools in 106 countries across the globe. (Offered at Hankey K-8)   To find out more about this programme, go to the IBO website.
  • The Middle Years Program (MYP) for students aged 11 to 16 started in 1994 and is now offered in 1,149 IB World Schools, in 101 countries. (Offered at Hankey K-8)  To find out more about this programme, go to the IBO website.
  • The Diploma Program (DP) for students aged 16 to 19,  started in 1968.  The DP is now offered in 2,795 IB World Schools, in 143 countries. (Offered at San Clemente HS, and Capo Valley HS)  To find out more about this program, go to the IBO website.
  • The Career-related Program (CP) for students aged 16-19 is IB's newest addition to the continuum.  The CP began in 2012 and is currently offered in 98 IB World Schools, in 16 countries.   To find out more about this program, go to the IBO website.

The IB Mission Website

The International Baccalaureate (IB) aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To this end, the IB works with schools, governments, and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.  These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

The Learner Profile

Learner Profile
The International Baccalaureate® (IB) learner profile describes a broad range of human capacities and responsibilities that go beyond academic success.  They imply a commitment to help all members of the school community learn to respect themselves, others and the world around them.  Each of the IB's programs is committed to the development of students according to the IB learner profile.
The profile's aims to develop learners who are:

Each quarter, students are recognized at a school-wide assembly for effectively demonstrating an IB Learner Profile.

Overview Hankey TK-8 IB Program

  • Carl Hankey TK-8 Academy IB Programs are open to Every student!  Whether your child begins their educational adventures with us in kindergarten, or joins our school community in later grade levels, they are immediately immersed in the full IB curriculum. 
  • Carl Hankey TK-8 Academy promotes the values of action and service.  Students are encouraged to take action and “Do Something” with their learning.  This might be sharing with family members, discovering a rock is really a fossil, writing a story, making a poster…voluntarily using what has been learned to make a difference.  Service, whether completed at school or in the community, is celebrated in all grades, and 8th graders are eligible for Service Awards given in June at the awards ceremony.
  • The IB program fosters international mindedness and globalism.  Our students know that a bigger world lies beyond the school walls, and through this awareness, they learn to tolerate differences and celebrate cultural uniqueness.
  • Carl Hankey TK-8 Academy develops reflection. As IB learners we all, staff and students, know the importance of taking time to stop, think, evaluate, reorganize and then go forth, rejuvenated and realigned.  Reflection helps us build intellectual stamina and the understanding that is perfectly fine to make a mistake and begin anew.
